  • The only recommedation we make is that you get clearance from your physician, but besides that, there are no prerequisites. You do not need to have done martial arts in the past; you don’t need to break a piece of lumber with your bare hands… none of that stuff.

  • This doesn’t matter and is a very common concern among adults who are interested in getting into martial arts. Part of our mission is to help you get more flexible and get stronger.

  • Jiu-Jitsu is a grappling martial art. It has its roots in Japan. Taekwondo, which has its origins in South Korea, is a striking martial arts, involving lots of kicking and punching. Karate is a Japanese martial art that traditionally involves strikes, blocks, sweeps, take-downs, and joint locks.

    A quick YouTube search can show you what these different martial arts look like.

  • First of all, all martial arts have their strengths and weaknesses. One of the strengths of Taekwondo is you can start practicing at any age and you can become incredibly proficient.

    Jiu-Jitsu and Karate are excellent martial arts. In fact, the owner of MAT holds a blue belt in Jiu-Jitsu and he is actively working toward purple belt.

    If you are looking to increase physical and mental strength, learn to defend yourself, and burn some calories, then MAT might be for you. We offer two free one-on-one classes to see if we are a good fit for you.

  • At our school, it takes four (4) years of consistent, dedicated training to earn a First Degree Black Belt.

  • It depends on the severity of your condition. We highly recommend that you consult with your physician before beginning your journey at MAT.

    Let’s say you consult with your physician and s/he says to are healthy enough to train in the martial arts even though you have a small amount of osteoarthritis in one ankle and it aggravates you from time to time. If you cannot do a certain exercise, we will do everything we can to help you succeed — which often entails modifying the exercise.

    Just because you have an injury or chronic illness does not mean you cannot train in the martial arts.

  • Fruits, vegetables, good sources of protein, and plenty of water.

    As much as possible, avoid fast food, sodas, extremely sugary foods, and processed foods.
